3 Korean War * June 25 1950 North Korea invaded South Korea * Hoping to make one unified communist country *17 United Nations countries came to South Korea's help * Peace declared July 1953 with no clear victor * Remains divided along the 38th parallel

4 Brown vs. Board of Education * court ruled that segregation was unconstitutional * Ordered racial integration of schools * Plessy vs. Ferguson ruling was upset by these ruling Supreme Court and Education

5 * Ga General Assembly voted to cut off state funding to systems that integrated schools * Governor Vandiver promised to keep Georgia schools segregated * 2 out 3 Georgians wanted to close schools rather than integrate them * Federal Government refused federal funding to any school system that did not end segregation Georgia's Reaction to Brown vs. Board of Education
