Course Overview Preparing for a Career in Early Childhood Development is the foundation to the Early Childhood Development program and will give you a broad overview of some of the different career opportunities in the field. You will be introduced to a variety of roles that an early childhood professional may undertake within the field as well as some of the professional organizations, resources and standards affiliated with the field. This course will also offer you some helpful academic strategies to support your learning throughout the program.

Course Description Early childhood professionals establish an environment for the early learning success of the children they serve. This course provides the opportunity for the early childhood development student to prepare for success in the Kaplan University classroom environment. Topics addressed include roles, responsibilities, and various career opportunities within the field, professional standards, personal management tools, strategies, and university resources. Additionally, students will preview the portfolio project that will be developed in the final capstone course in the program.

Course Outcomes By the end of this course, you should be able to: Identify early childhood professional roles, responsibilities, and standards Use a variety of personal management tools, strategies and university resources to enhance learning Identify careers within the early childhood development field Apply basic knowledge of the early childhood professional role to program and professional goals Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English Describe the historical events that influence contemporary culture

Extenuating Circumstances If you have extenuating circumstances that prevent you from completing projects or participating in the class, please contact me as soon as possible as I do worry about my students. I always follow the grading rubric and typically never refuse late work projects, however since this is a provisional admittance course, I unable to accept ANY late work in units 1-5. Please be proactive and not reactive!

Graded Reviews In units where you see graded reviews, please use the readings as well as the tips from Spartacus to assist you in answering the questions. Take your time, you have two hours to complete each review.

Projects You will not have any written projects until week 6, but please note that when you get to them to remember to use the rubric which is posted on your syllabus as your guide. Please be sure to pay In addition, you will see templates on the project page, using them is strongly suggested.
