1 One of three in the godhead
The Holy spirit One of three in the godhead

2 “Godhead” Includes all Three
God the Father 1 Corinthians 8:6 God the Son John 1:1, 14 God the Holy Spirit Acts 5:3

3 “Godhead” Includes all Three
All three are found in: The creation Genesis 1:1-2, 26 John 1:1-3 The baptism of Jesus Matthew 3:16-17 Salutation given by Paul 2 Corinthians 13:14

4 “Godhead” Includes all Three
Attributes of divinity belong to all three Each had a part in providing salvation God as the designer and planner Jesus as the executor (carried out the plan) Holy Spirit as the revealer and confirmer

5 Holy Spirit – Revealer of the truth
Without the Holy Spirit we could not know what to do to be saved He would teach, testify of, and guide the apostles John 14:26; 15:26; 16:12-13 Apostles received revelation by the Holy Spirit Ephesians 3:3-5 1 Corinthians 2:9-13 1 Peter 1:12

6 Holy Spirit – Revealer of the truth
Revelation and Inspiration Process of inspiration knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21

7 Holy Spirit – Revealer of the truth
Revelation and Inspiration The fact of inspiration All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

8 Holy Spirit as Confirmer of Truth
Truth confirmed by miracles; signs; and wonders Gifts bestowed “directly on the apostles” and on others “whom they laid hands” Mark 16:17-20 Acts 8:5-17 Acts 19:5-6

9 Holy Spirit as Confirmer of Truth
How they used miraculous gifts – their purpose: Hebrews 2:1-4 Lord had spoken Hearers gave testimony of what they heard Holy Spirit gave supernatural testimony 2 Corinthians 12:12

10 Holy Spirit as Confirmer of Truth
How they used miraculous gifts – their purpose: God showed such testimony through Christ Acts 2:22 A difference between Christ’s miracles and the apostles: Christ – authority to forgive sins Apostles – To believe in Christ Mark 2:10-11

11 The Holy Spirit is not now performing miracles
Holy Spirit as Confirmer of Truth Why signs do not need to be continued: Thomas wanted to see – John 20:19-25 He was allowed to see – John 20:26-28 Some who didn’t see, believe – John 20:29 Events recorded so we can believe John 20:30-31 The word once confirmed is always confirmed The Holy Spirit is not now performing miracles

12 Holy Spirit as Confirmer of Truth
Speaking in tongues were the divine signs by which the word was confirmed Listed in 1 Corinthians 12:4-10 Now a more excellent way 1 Corinthians 12:27-31 Through love and God’s written inspired word 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 Love won’t fail – but miraculous gifts would 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 Miraculous gifts were done away with when the “perfect” came – the complete revelation of God’s inspired word!

13 CONCLUSION Who is the Holy Spirit?
Helped make it possible for us to be saved By revealing God’s plan as executed by Christ How does the Holy Spirit work today? He dwells in us through the Word of God He converts the sinner through the word He edifies through the word

14 CONCLUSION The Word has been confirmed! Holy Spirit dwells within us
Acts 5:32; 1 Corinthians 6:19 God dwells within us 2 Corinthians 6:16 Christ dwells within us Ephesians 3:17

15 This is what the Holy Spirit means to us today!
CONCLUSION The presence of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit being within us is dependent on our abiding in the Word! 1 John 4:12-15 This is what the Holy Spirit means to us today!
