2 Lesson Overview: The goal of the lesson is to show and demonstrate the daily changes in weather over a months time through weather logs Materials Crayons : Red, Orange, Light Blue, Dark Blue Blank Weather Log Weather cutouts Glue sticks Weather Handouts Bulletin Board

3 ENGAGE 0 Give students a brief overview of what the sun is, what rain is and what wind is. 0 Have students stand in a circle. Walk the students through the different dance moves of the song before playing the song. 0 Show Weather Song Video 0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcW9Ct000yY&fe ature=relmfu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcW9Ct000yY&fe ature=relmfu 0 Replay the song and do the dance with the students.

4 EXPLORE 0 As a class, they will go outside and observe the current weather conditions. 0 The student’s won’t necessarily know the vocabulary terms so they will just talk about what they feel, what they see and if anything is falling out of the sky. Making note of what type of clothing they are wearing. 0 The teacher will then prompt a discussion of what the student’s think it would be like outside on a different day in a different season and what type of clothing they would wear.

5 EXPLAIN 0 Vocabulary Terms: 0 Weather 0 Temperature(Cold, Hot, Warm) 0 Cloud Coverage (Cloudy, Partly Cloudy, Foggy) 0 Precipitation (Rain, Snow, Hail, Freezing rain) 0 Wind (Breezy, Windy, Calm) 0 Seasons (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) 0 The teacher will explain the vocabulary terms and discuss what conditions would fall under what seasons. To help put it into perspective the teacher could talk about what type of clothing students would wear with different types of weather conditions. 0 For example: Winter it could be cold, cloudy, snowing, and windy. Students would wear hat, cloves, boots, snow suit, and a jacket. 0 Students would then fill out the weather worksheet.

7 ELABORATE 0 For one month the students will keep a weather log. At the beginning of the day the students will take out their weather log and will glue on the symbols for what the weather is like out side. 0 The teacher will also make a life size weather log on bulletin board in the classroom. After the students have completed their weather logs, they as a class will discuss what they put as their weather conditions, and students will come up and attach the weather conditions to the day. 0 At the end of the month they will discuss as a class what the weather conditions were like for the month. They will discuss what stayed the same, and if there were differences.
