2 Where is Saguaro National Park? Saguaro National Park is in Arizona, near Tucson. Its latitude is 32.25°N and its longitude is 110.5° W Fun Fact! Saguaro National Park is 91,400 acres!

3 Biome of Saguaro National Park Saguaro National Park is a desert Some characteristics of this biome are that its very hot and dry. There’s not a lot of rainfall To be a desert, there has to be less than 10 inches of rainfall Deserts are found all over the world ◦ Sahara ◦ Gobi ◦ Antarctic

This is because Saguaro National Park is in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Northern Hemisphere the longest hours are in the summer, and the shortest hours are in the winter.

10 Animals Coyote is a major animal in Saguaro National park, because it hunts most of the animals, and coyote only come out at night, because night is cooler. Desert Tortoises eat plants. They come out at night and day time. They also contain a large amount of water in their body. Road Runner is a bird. They are more likely to run than fly. They come out at night and day to search food and they eat small animals, insects and snakes.

11 Animals Red- Tailed Hawk is a bird. It has very good eye vision. It comes out during the day to search food. It eats small animals and snakes. Kangaroo Rat is a rat that can survive in the desert because it’s body can save water, so he can last a long time without water. Western Diamondback Rattle snake has two heat- sensing pits behind the nostrils. They like very hot places, so the desert is the perfect place for them.

12 Animals Collared Peccary are pig like animals that move in herds led by a dominant figure. They eat plants. Black- tailed jackrabbit lives in a group with 25 or more. They stay in the shadows during the day. The shadows are normally cooler so that’s why they like it. Cactus wren are birds. It comes to ground to search for food, such as insects and fruit.

13 Animals & Insects Horned Lizards eat live insets that are moving. They can even eat poisonous insects! However, they don’t like venomous ants. White- Lined sphinx moths live underground. The adults hide in the shadows outside during the day. They also eat flower nectar. Mexican Long- Tongued Bat are nocturnal animals that eat at night. They eat fruits and flowers from cacti.

14 Insects & Arachnids Ants live in warm climates. They form colonies with one queen. They eat grass Deafening Buzz, they are also a insets that make lots of noises in the dessert. Most scorpions are poisonous. They come out at night to eat. Scorpions aren’t actually Insets, they are related to Insets though. They are Arachnids.

15 Plants Large Saguaro cactus are the most important plant in the national park. This give most of the animals water. Mesquites have roots that are spread around the underground. It lets the tree reach for water that is far away. Dessert paintbrush are flowers that are very beautiful. In spring after a wet winter it will continue to grow even when its dry.
