2 Number of Credits You must have a minimum of 23 credits to receive a diploma from Douglas County School System. **18 credits are needed to be promoted to senior status.

3 Required Courses 4 credits of English (9 th Lit and Amer. Lit. Required) 4 credits of Math (Cor. Alg., Anly. Geo., Adv. Alg. and 4 th math) 4 credits of Science 3 credits of Social Studies (Am. Govt., US Hist. World Hist. and Econ.) ½ credit Health and ½ credit Personal Fitness 3 Elective credits from CTAE, Fine Arts or Foreign Language

4 Science Biology Physical Science or Physics Chemistry, Environmental Science or Earth Systems 1 additional Science

5 Foreign Language Alert! Foreign Language is not required for graduation. 2 and 4 year colleges still require 2 credits of the same foreign language for admissions.

6 Honors Honor Grad 3.75 cumulative GPA No F’s Maximum credits (32) 5 academic courses Senior year 2 credits of Foreign Language Board Scholar 3.5 cumulative GPA No F’s Maximum credits (32) 2 extra academic courses 2 credits of Foreign Language

7 Seals Fine Arts –4 credits (Band, Visual Arts, Chorus or Drama) –2 credits must be from same discipline Foreign Language - 4 credits of the same foreign language Academic Seal –3 Advanced Placement (AP) or Dual Enrollment credits –3 Certificate completions from technical school dual enrollment program –Combination of the above

8 EOC’s EOCTs count as 20% of your final grade

9 There is still HOPE! HOPE Scholarship (85% tuition) 3.0 Core GPA No longer covers books or fees Hope Chart Zell Miller Scholarship (Full tuition) 3.7 core GPA + 1200 SAT (math/verbal) or 26 ACT composite

10 There’s Still HOPE (cont’d) Covers a percentage of tuition at a public technical college. No GPA requirement to receive grant. May be GPA requirement to keep it. Must complete FAFSA in January to be considered for HOPE Grant.

15 ACT vs. SAT Juniors should begin taking the ACT or SAT in their second semester Both are accepted by colleges for admissions. SAT is reasoning test and the writing section is required. ACT is knowledge test and the writing section is optional (most colleges want a writing score). Students must register for tests online. Waivers are available for students who qualify.
