Moore’s Law By Cameron Waters
2
Who’s Law? Gordon Moore Born January 3 rd 1929 Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Co-Founder of Intel in 1968
3
So? What is it? Moore’s Law specifies that the number of transistors on Computer Chips Roughly Doubles every Two - Three Years ! Moore’s Law isn’t a real law !
4
Wait…What’s a Transistor? “A transistor is a semi conductive used to amplify and switch electronic signals” - wikipedia
5
So ? That’s Not THAT Important Not Important ? The More Transistors the more complex the device is and the fast it can go !
6
MIPS = Million instructions per second This graph compares the past and future rate of transistor growth with the brain power of living things.
7
So Moore’s Law will go on Forever ? Well…Not Exactly Intel Predicted that it’s end will come between 2013 and 2018
8
NO ! EVERYTHING YOU SAID WAS A LIE ! At least we have the proposed Technology Singularity ! Machines building Other and Better Machines !
9
Any Questions ?
