2. Objectives  Establishing a national mechanism for the selection, coordination, facilitation and implementation of CDM projects. The set-up must take into consideration the obligatory CDM project cycle requirements, established by the UNFCCC secretariat.  Identifying the roles of the different Egyptian institutions within the CDM project cycle.  Preparing a pipeline of CDM projects. These projects must be economically viable, environmentally friendly and socially acceptable.  Assessing GHG reduction potential in Egypt and the competitiveness in the international GHG market.  Identifying national capacity building needs.

Procedure  Formulating the SC & TAG through which the TOR were prepared  Selecting E2RC, which is affiliated to TIMS as the local contractor and EBP as the International (Swiss) contractor to prepare Egypt’s NSS under the umbrella of EEAA & WB and the technical assistance and funding the project by the Swiss government  Selecting the Egyptian team leaders and consultants. During the same time the Swiss team was determined.  Working together with the Swiss consultants through the technical workshops and visits  Depending upon the NC in extracting the necessary information.  Taking into considerations the valuable comments of the SC & TAG members on the periodical reports, and the valuable discussions with the stakeholders and the representatives of Ministries, Organizations, Authorities & committee during the workshops and direct contacts with them. This was a great help in selecting the projects.  Preparing the strategy with a high degree of quality and accepting it during the SC meeting on 19/10/2002.
