2 More local NGOs and CBOs are involved in bigger humanitarian operations and therefore should widely acknowledged that enhancing security measures for those in the field (and organizations who deploy them) is necessary. Why Regional Security?

3 Having an appropriate security management policy and appropriate security procedures does not guarantee total security but can make the difference and can help to: Minimize security incidents, and Improve reactions during crises Benefits of a Security Policy

4 The aim of this project will be to help aid organizations to: Have an improved understanding of their current operating environment Identify potential threats Be able to devise strategies and protocols that will help the organization as an entity and its staff as individuals to mitigate potential or actual security threats Aim of the Project

7 Activities: Regional Conference February 24 th and 25 th 2011 The workshop will consist of 4 tracks focusing on academia, UN, INGOs and NGOs Draft of policy paper on “Risk Management Awareness” will be improved through workshops Security and risk management experts from the region will discuss challenges, and then focus on practical and political solutions

8 Security Plans One agency in the region develops Long Term Security Plan and Two agencies in the region develops Short Term Security Plan and the process widely shared. Possessing security plan is critical in operations in highly volatile countries. This result will help one local agency to develop security plan and the process of doing so will be widely shared in order to allow further replication of the process.

9 Security updates and E-alerts 12 e-alerts showing trends and more important creating awareness. 4 updates sharing information on the regional trainings. Security situation changes rapidly, and it is vital to develop constant information updating behavior by each security related personnel. This result aims to build and sustain this behavior by providing updated information on constant basis.

10 Translation of Security Manual. Comprehensive security manual is translated into local languages to be used as reference Several countries will be selected based on level of risks aid workers are facing, as well as availability of security related materials in-country. After the selection, comprehensive security manual will be translated into their local language so that such resource becomes available for local agencies in their own language.

11 Animated Movie One animated movie with evacuation procedure and how to confront hostile situation is produced in English Animated movie often helps to generate interest and for information to sink in among the audiences. This result aims to build that interest, as well as to spread vital personal security basics to aid workers. Animated movie will be made widely available through web posting and sharing of movie files with other coordinating bodies (both regional and national).
