Action Verbs Express either physical or mental activity Examples: My kids load the dishwasher and clean their rooms. I believe it is important for children to have chores.

Represent a state of being Examples – is, are, was, were

Linking Verbs ◦ Connect the subject to a word or word group that identifies or describes the subject ◦ Examples: The leaves are orange. They look beautiful.

Used with an action verb to ‘help’ it out. Example – is running, is jumping, were singing

1. Susie wondered what wonderful things life with her own true love would hold. 2. Hunt was a devoted dad, a man who loved to spend time with his children. 3. The men in the room each drew a straw to determine who would take the watch until morning.
