MDE Program Evaluation Tool

Background  Developed by MDE Office of Field Services  Part of the School Improvement Process  Available for all to use  Suggest trying it with a strategy, or Initiative in Spring 2014

Course Overview  Currently Available in LearnPort  Consists of:  Two Presentations  MDE Program Evaluation Tool (including overview of online version in ASSIST)  MDE Implementation Planning Tool  Activities

Audience & Usage  Recommended for School Improvement Teams  Available to everyone  Can complete all or only part  Self-paced or blended  Individual or teams  No SCECHs (too short)

Why? To help you to answer the question, “Did the strategy, program or initiative work?” The monitoring data collected will help you to answer questions related to evaluating implementation such as: Was the program implemented as intended? Were the strategies implemented consistently and with fidelity? Were enough time and resources available and used for implementation?

So it might be required by MDE?  It will be required in the future by MDE for school receiving FEDERAL FUNDS (Title I, Title II, etc)  Latest news from MDE says…Spring 2015 will be completed in ASSIST  MDE is planning to roll out training in winter of 2014 with ISD and MDE/OFS working together  Deadlinesand expectations will be communicated during training

Our Suggestion  Evaluation Tool is available in ASSIST as an optional Diagnostic  Try using the tool on one Strategy in your DI or SI Plan during Spring 2014  Similar to other “data” based conversations, the completion of the tool is not the important part  The important part is engaging in a reflective PROCESS to determine if implementation is occurring as intended and if the strategy is impacting student learning

How will Program Evaluation play out in your school?  Take the opportunity to develop a process and use the Evaluation Tool before it is required  And before it becomes high stakes!
