6 12,000 REGISTERED PESTICIDES What is a pesticide? s. 94.67(25) Wis Stats "Pesticide" means any substance or mixture of substances labeled or designed or intended for use in preventing, destroying, repelling or mitigating any pest, or as a plant regulator, defoliant or desiccant. Herbicide – Insecticide – Fungicide – Rodenticide – Fumigant – Antimicrobial – etc.

10 HOW TO BECOME CERTIFIED Purchase UW Pesticide Applicator Training Program certification category manual Study Pass DATCP certification exam Valid for 5 years

11 INDIVIDUAL PESTICIDE APPLICATOR CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIRED FOR: Applicators using “Restricted-Use” pesticides Commercial applicators For-Hire Use any pesticide on public school property (K-12) Your business may want employees to be certified

12 INDIVIDUAL COMMERCIAL APPLICATOR FOR-HIRE Contracts pesticide application work Use either general or restricted-use pesticide products To property they do not own Must be certified and licensed

13 INDIVIDUAL COMMERCIAL APPLICATOR NOT-FOR-HIRE Only applies pesticides on property that they and/or their employer owns, rents, or controls Receives no compensation for the application, other than normal wages Must be certified and licensed to use restricted-use pesticide products Landlords, shipbuilders…

14 ANNUAL LICENSING 1.Individual Applicator Pass category certification exam Complete application form and pay fee For-Hire applicators must work at licensed business 8,300 Individual Pesticide Applicators 2.Commercial Pesticide Application Business Exemptions: Government and educational entities. 2,200 Application Businesses Annual, expires December 31.

15 USING PESTICIDES IN WISCONSIN Product must be registered in Wisconsin Follow all applicable directions, restrictions, and precautions on the label Personnel protective equipment Application rate Disposal

17 APPLICATION RECORD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 1. Applicator’s complete name, license and certification number. 2. Customer’s name and address. 3. Treated site (trees, shrubs, etc.). 4. Specific location of application site. 5. Month, day, year, approximate start and finish times of the application. 6. Brand, product or common chemical name AND EPA product registration number of each pesticide used. 7. Each location, other than a licensed business location, at which the pesticide was mixed and loaded. 8. At least one of the following: a. The concentration and total quantity of each pesticide used. OR b. The amount of each pesticide applied per unit area and the total area treated.
