4 Wings Different shapes for different trips.

5 Wings 1.Long wing feathers are made to allow a bird to travel long distances. Ex. Birds who migrate 2. Short wing feathers are made for birds who live in wooded areas to allow them to move and turn quickly. Ex. peasants

6 Wings 3. All birds have wings, but not all birds fly!!

7 Beak For more than just eating???

8 Beaks Meat eaters have sharp pointed beaks for ripping and shredding.

9 Beaks Flat beaks are form vegetarian birds like ducks and ostriches.

10 Beaks Long, narrow beaks are for collecting nectar (food) from flowers.

11 Beaks Small, curved beaks are used to crack nuts.

12 Feet All different feet for all different walks.

13 Bird Feet Long legs with small, skinny legs are made for wading in shallow water.

14 Bird Feet Curved feet are made for birds who mostly live in trees.

15 Bird Feet Birds with flat feet spend most of their time on land.

16 Bird Feet Webbed feet are made for water birds.

17 Bird Feet Meat eaters often have a talon (sharp nail).

18 Feathers Each feather has a special job!

19 Feathers 1.Primary Feathers- found on the wings and used for moving forward. 2.Tail Feathers- found on the back of the bird and help the bird steer or stop.

20 Feathers 3. Ducks have feathers that actually repel water. In other words they act like a rain coat.

21 Color Some birds use color to attract the females.
