2 The National Certificate in Umpiring and Officiating

3 Who is it for? This qualification is intended to recognise the skills required to officiate at intermediate to top levels of sport competition. Certificate holders are able to apply their knowledge and skills to familiar and new situations in sport competitions. Each holder of this certificate will apply the specific skills of umpiring and officiating to their chosen sport code.

4 The background Mandated by Government to: 1 ) Set skill standards and qualifications 2) Arrange for the delivery of workplace learning and training 3) Provide industry leadership by identifying skill needs, developing strategic training plans, and promoting learning that meets industry needs

5 * Based on the Calling the Game Framework created on behalf of the industry by SPARC * Qualification was developed in partnership with Skills Active Officiating Advisory Group How developed

6 What’s covered Apply sport rules and regulations Stress Management Conflict management Pre-competition preparations Review personal performance Demonstrate knowledge of the obligations, responsibilities, and duties of sports officials Communication Understanding of game tactics and strategies

7 What’s covered (Electives) Injury prevention and risk and injury management Giving and Receiving Feedback Risk Management

8 Your Feedback In the group at your table, use the feedback sheet provided to answer the following questions (1) Thinking about your own officiating development programme are there any gaps in the learning areas offered in the National Certificate (2) If Skills Active were to support the qualification via the creation of learning and assessment resources, what would be the biggest priority and what might be the most suitable format (workshop etc) (3) (If you get time) What are the basic skills you would like an official to have before starting to officiate properly i.e. at a competitive level
