1 SAM 2003 The Student Experience

2 Initial Setup 1.Ensure you are connected to the Internet. 2.Launch IE (v. 5.0 or later). 3.Enter http://sam2003.course.com or click on the SAM icon on your desktop.

3 If you have no username/password: Click the new user button. This will open the institution key screen. If you have a username/password: Enter your username and password in the appropriate fields. Click the login button.

4 Enter the Kilgore College Institution Key here and then click OK. The Kilgore College Institution Key is S3573606 When the prompt “You have entered the Institution key for Kilgore College. Is this Correct?” appears click OK.

5 Enter your Key Code here. The key code is found on the back inside cover of your Student Tutorial CD that came with your book.

6 Field LabelDescription *first nameEnter your first name. initEnter your middle initial. *last nameEnter your last name. *usernameUse the first 4 digits of your last name, the first 4 of first name - in all lower case letters plus the last 4 numbers of your student id. Example for Jane Smith with student id# 1234-56789 would be smitjane6789. The username cannot be modified once it is established. *passwordThe password must be 6–50 alphanumeric characters. Choose a password that is easily remembered, but cannot be guessed easily. aliasThe alias must be 6-20 characters. An alias is a name under which your instructor can choose to post exam results. Choose an alias you recognize easily but that others cannot. id#Enter your student ID number. *emailEnter your email address. Blackboard idEnter your blackboard id. WebCT idEnter your WebCT id. Information Needed on the User Profile Screen * denotes required field

7 Enter required information and click Save.

8 Read the SAM 2003 TERMS and CONDITIONS carefully. Then click the Agree button to accept the terms and conditions and continue. If the agreement is not accepted, SAM 2003 automatically exits.

9 If you need to change your user information for any reason, choose Profile from the left navigation menu.

10 Change your user information as necessary and click Save or Cancel to return to the previous screen. Remember that usernames cannot be altered once established.

11 In order to take an exam you must be enrolled in a section. SAM 2003 may be set up so that your instructor assigns you to a section and/or you may be able to join a section on your own. Click sections on the navigation bar to open the sections screen. Any sections you have joined or been assigned to will display in the choose section box. Click the join section button. This will open the join section screen

12 1. To join a section, select it in the candidates box. 2. When it is highlighted, click the > button. Your selection will appear in this sections box. 3. Click Save.

13 When you have finished your session in SAM 2003 be sure to logout. If you do not logout of Sam 2003, you will still be logged in even if you close Internet Explorer or navigate to a new web site. To log out of SAM 2003, click logout on the navigation bar, when the SAM 2003 login screen appears you have successfully logged out of SAM 2003.
