3 Business Information Management I (BIM) Instructional Supervisor: Tamica Hunt tamica.hunt@desotoisd.org MISSION To educate students to be self-directed learners, collaborative workers, complex thinkers, quality producers, and community contributors

4 COARSE GOALS Introduce, develop, and perfect business skills that include computer concepts, business language and reading, writing and math correlated to Texas Standards Develop time management and business accountability through different learning scenarios Explore management and financial concepts and how they apply to the success or failure of a business Prepare scholars for the Microsoft Office Specialist Master Certification Exam Accomplishing these goals will require student cooperation. In business, you must work independently, but you must also work effectively with others in order to succeed.

5 STANDARDS/CURRICULUM The student will be expected to: – Use operating system to execute work responsibilities – Apply word processing technology – Apply data entry techniques to enter information in databases – Use project management processes to plan a business project – Apply spreadsheet technology – Apply presentation management technology

6 SUPPLIES Spiral for note taking Pen and/or Pencil 1 GB Flash Drive and/or Google Drive A professional email address

7 STUDENT EXPECTATIONS Be in class on time Go straight to seats, seated when the bell rings Not congregate outside/inside the classroom door Memorize computer log in or have it accessible for quick log into computers Be in the process of logging in by the time the bell rings Turn in assignments on time Be respectful and comply with all reasonable requests Not bring any food or drinks into the computer lab Bring supplies to class daily Adhere to the dress code policy Not use profanity

8 Additional Rules Keep your hands off my desk. It is my personal space, please respect it as such. Listening to music during lessons will not be tolerated. It is rude and disrespectful. If you choose not to remain on task and use computers appropriately, you will be loose computer privileges for the day and the machine will be powered off. Additional disciplinary actions will be taken as necessary.

9 DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES Disciplinary practices can be found in the business world and well as this business classroom as I prepare you for the corporate environment. If a business student chooses not to follow any of the rules/expectations, the following steps will be taken. – 1 st Offense: Warning – 2 nd Offense: Parent Contact – 3 rd Offense: Office Referral

10 LATE ASSIGNMENT POLICY In order to receive full credit on an assignment, students must use time and resources wisely. Appropriate time and resources will be given to all students to reach their set goals for the project at hand. Late assignments turned in due to absences or failure to complete the assignment by the published due date will be subject to late penalties.

11 Enter before the tardy bell rings Immediately log into computer Begin bell ringer (timed) Participate in class discussion and activities Always log out of computer before leaving Push chairs in as you exit Obtaining your attention: – Clapper – Bell – DHS Anchor: Discipline + Hard work = Success

12 Misconception: Oh, this is just an elective, we won’t do anything in this class. Reality: You will work in this class and EARN your grades. There will be assignments and projects daily through out the course. I was told quite often last school year that I do the most.

13 False: My future career won’t be in business so I won’t be able to use the skills learned in this course. Truth: “Business” is involved in any career. The skill you will learn in this course will not only be business skills, but life skills. Keep an open mind.

14 Emergency Procedures Fire Lock Down Lock Out Shelter in Place Serious and life threatening and should be treated as such.

15 Writing Prompt Are first impressions important? Why or why not? You have 10 minutes. Use correct capitalization, usage, punctuation and spelling.
