Specific statements considering CMS for schools CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS school as a service enterprise with teachers, students, parents and graduates involved

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 3  CONCEPTUAL CONSIDERATIONS goals target groups content CI and CD time-frame budget evaluation responsible person / team

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 4  STRUCTURE AND CONTENT welcome-page sitemap schoolpartners profile of the school projects and activities graduates dates information about teachers, students sponsors forums e-mail school newspaper etc......

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 5  WEBDESIGN AND ORGANIZATION self-developement or outsourcing cms or no cms inhouse-server or not maintenance separation of administration and education integrated communication platform

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 6  PROBLEMS? data protection (no obligatory legal guidelines) personal homepages of students (doubtful content, disclaimer) guestbook (personal insulting) etc....

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 7 HOW?  webdesign, cms, outsourcing Are there enough human resources (students-teachers) and... is there sufficient knowhow to build a(W)CMS? Very few examples for outsourcing Example: School is outsourcing ist maintenance of computers or database driven management of students and classes or graduates (www.klassentreffen.at) Are there schools which use a „professional“ CMS?

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 8 Intranet Internet production of content content filtering A sensational website What a shit!

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 9 another aspect of content management: CONTENT FILTERING overwhelming offer of data by the internet Who manages the content of the internet? INTERNETINTRANET By technical measures? or by self restriction and self responsibility

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 10 Our next plans for the near future: setting up a Community among the students and teachers Participation in the project: IMST (Innovation in Science, Math and Technology Teaching) Trying to improve the flow of information among all school partners (if it is desired at all) [normally underdeveloped in most of the schools] Hoping that IT and CMS lead to a better school [ whatever you understand by that...]

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 11 Missing something? E-LEARNING? Let us be honest: Making available a lot of educational material, putting it categorized on the inter/intranet, offering drill- practice and assessing programs, some visualizations and animations and making possible communication by E-Mail or Chatrooms, is for sure a supporting tool to catalyze getting data (information) on demand, but no warranty for a lasting „LEARNING“ process.

CONTENTMANAGEMENT AND SCHOOLS Peter Micheuz, ICL Workshop Sept. 2002 12 Thank You for Your attention!
