1 1.5 Individual Rights (p62 - 65) Health & Social Care Unit 2 Objective: Concept: In this task you will be asked to show independent enquiry skills when asking questions to extend your personal thinking skills. You will apply theory learnt in class to real life practice e.g. at your placement. You will reflect back on your own beliefs and how they impact on your actions. Context: P1 – explain the concepts of equality, diversity, and rights in relation to health and social care.

2 Task List: personal, learning & thinking skills: As a group you need to read through the text pages 62 to 65 and produce a written summary of linked ideas: Starter:Reflect p62. Development: Collaborate with other to produce a written summary of linked ideas based on processed information. The right to be respected The right to be treated equally and not discriminated against The right to be treated as an individual The right to be treated in a dignified way The right to be allowed privacy The right to be protected from danger and harm The right to be allowed access to information about themselves The right to communicate using preferred methods of communication and language The right to be cared for in a way that meets their needs. 3 Concepts and Discriminatory and Anti- Discriminatory Practices (P1) Vocational Context: Since September you have been volunteering in a health and social care setting of your choice. It is now necessary for you to reflect on the services provided your chosen establishment. In this scenario you have been appointed as your workplace’s equal opportunities officer and have been asked to put together a presentation and information booklet to help train staff at your workplace. This will form part of the establishment’s ongoing CPD programme, regarding equality, diversity, rights and anti- discriminatory practice. You will be required to critically evaluate how your chosen provider promotes equality, diversity and rights in line with current UK legislation. You will be required to make realistic suggestions on how the issues identified may be addressed.
