2 CHARTS Charts provide a way of presenting and comparing data in graphical format. Embedded charts or chart sheets Embedded charts are objects in the worksheet along with the data. Chart sheets – Exist on a separate sheet by itself. All charts are linked to the charted data. The chart data appears in the plot area.

3 CHART TERMS Horizontal axis – X axis Vertical axis – Y axis Legend – Identifies each of the data series Plot area – Holds the data points on a chart. Data series – Data used to create the chart

4 DATA SERIES The above data series is used to create the chart that is located on the next slide.

5 Vertical Axis Chart Title Axis Titles Horizontal Axis Data Table Data Labels Legend Single series in same color.

6 TYPES OF CHARTS

7 COLUMN CHART Compare individual or sets of values. The height of each bar corresponds to its value

8 BAR CHART Illustrates comparisons among individual items.

9 LINE CHART Shows changes over time, such as trends

10 CIRCLE PIE CHART Shows the relationships of each value in a single series to the whole The size of a pie wedge represents the percentage that value contributes to the total

11 SCATTER CHART Also known as XY charts Represent data points as dots. The dots for each series appear in different colors. The position of the dots reveals a trend.

12 AREA CHART Displays the magnitude of change over time Look like filled in line charts
