Graphs Graphs are used to display data. They visually represent relationships between data. All graphs should have a title that identifies the variables or relationships in the graph Line and bar graphs have an x and y axis

Types of graphs A line graph is used to display data that show how the independent variable changes in response to the dependent variable & when your independent variable is measured continuously A bar graph is used to display data in a number of separate, or distinct, categories. A pie chart shows relationships in a percentage or as parts of a whole

Data Tables Data tables are ways to record and organize data that is recorded during an experiment. Data tables should have columns and rows which are used to record data. Data tables should contain the Independent variable and the Dependent variable

Data tables Notice in this data table that the independent variable (body mass) is the heading of one column. The dependent variable (for Experiment 1, the number of Calories burned while bicycling) is the heading of the next column. Additional columns were added for related experiments

Line Graphs On graph paper, draw a horizontal, or x-, axis and a vertical, or y-, axis. Label the horizontal axis with the name of the independent variable . Label the vertical axis with the name of the dependent variable. Include units of measurement. Create a scale on each axis by marking off equally spaced numbers that cover the range of the data collected. Plot data points and then connect the points.

Bar Graphs On graph paper, draw a horizontal, or x-, axis and a vertical, or y-, axis. Write the names of the categories to be graphed along the horizontal axis. Include an overall label for the axis as well. Label the vertical axis with the name of the independent variable. Include units of measurement. Then create a scale along the axis by marking off equally spaced numbers that cover the range of the data collected.

Circle Graphs or Pie Charts
Like bar graphs, circle graphs can be used to display data in a number of separate categories. A circle graph is sometimes called a pie chart because it resembles a pie cut into slices. The pie represents the entire topic, while the slices represent the individual categories. The size of a slice indicates what percentage of the whole a particular category makes up.
