2 Qualifications List 10 qualities that you think a successful president should have. Who do you think has been the BEST president? Why? Who has been the WORST? Why? How would you rate Obama thus far in his presidency?

Line of Succession: order in which president is replaced VP Speaker of the HR

Secretary of State Secretary of Treasury Secretary of Defense #18 – Secretary of Homeland Security

8 Disability of President 25th Amendment
If president is disabled (too sick to work), there are 2 options: President writes a letter transferring power VP and majority of Congress decide Pres is incapacitated *Temporary, Pres returns to power once he proves his ability to do so

Vice President “I am Vice President. In this I am nothing, but I may be everything” John Adams VP’s Constitutional duties: Preside over the Senate (break ties) Determine President’s disability

10 “Balances the ticket” provides something the President does not have, possibly demographic (age, gender, race, region, etc) or experience Obama picked Biden largely due to his years of experience Why did McCain pick Sarah Palin? If there is a vacancy, Pres picks a replacement, must be approved by Congress
