1 Public Health Laboratory Services In Accordance with Priority #6 – Environmental Health Improvements –Public Health Laboratory Services supports the Local Health Department by providing analysis of surface waters and generating defensible data that is used in seeking compliance with local, state and federal environmental and public health laws that reduce the effects of pollution on the waters of Galveston County. In addition, laboratory analyzes drinking water samples to ensure the water supply is free of bacteriological contamination.

7 Public Health Laboratory Services Future Issues –State funding of salary and benefits for two (2) lab positions will end on August 31, 2004. Only salary dollars will transition to the Health District. –Health District is studying the current testing services that are provided by the Public Health Laboratory and aligning those functions to funding sources.
