A Brief Overview of the Network Council Meeting 2010: Legislation Haiti Debt Cancellation - Jubilee led the call to cancel Haiti’s debt after the earthquake and on July 21 st, 2010, the IMF, WB, and Inter-American Development Bank cancelled Haiti’s multilateral debt Stop VULTURE Funds" Act (H.R. 2932) - The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by Representatives Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Spencer Bachus (R-AL) and would have prevented vulture funds from making excessive profit off the debt of the world's poorest nations Jubilee Act -The Jubilee Act was introduced in the House in December 2009 and received bipartisan support with 53 cosponsors -Reps. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Spencer Baucus (R-AL) introduced the bill in the House of Representatives

Take Action Events Nationwide, 41 Jubilee Sunday Services, and participation in the NYC and DC United Nations Millennium Campaign Events Landmark Bipartisan Outreach to President Obama - Jubilee USA worked for Congress to send a letter to President Obama asking for expanded debt cancellation - 48 members of Congress signed the bipartisan letter

Senators Lugar and Casey IFI Reform Letter – December 2010 Jubilee received bipartisan support for the Jubilee Act for Responsible Lending and Expanded Debt Cancellation On December 23, Senators Lugar (R-IN) and Casey (D-PA) were joined by Senators Kerry, Menendez, Dodd, Durbin, Cardin and Sherrod Brown in sending a letter to President Obama supporting grants, not loans, increased transparency and accountability, and fighting corruption for the world’s low-income countries - Senator Casey says, “…This legislation will help these nations get out of debt and help them free up resources to reduce poverty…”
