2 The law Legislation protects employees and learner from discrimination on the grounds if age. They prohibit direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, harassment and victimisation. As with other legislation the law protects everyone equally because of their age, someone could be discriminated because they are 20 or 60

3 Interesting Stats 19 million people aged over 50 in the UK population=over 40% of population By 2020 there will be over 23 million people over 50 years old in the UK More teenagers than people in their 50s are put off applying for jobs because of their age 30s are the least happy to work until they are 70 Source: Age at work study by Employers Forum on Age
