CB330005S Review and Planning UND:0414972 April 2007

BA(Hons) Learning, Technology and Research Review of Levels 1 and 2 Key Learning Points Changes In Workplace Identify Gaps in Knowledge

UND2602 Investigating the work setting Critically assess the requirements and the competencies of my work role Critically assess the requirements and the competencies of my work role Carry out a self audit looking at my strengths and weaknesses Carry out a self audit looking at my strengths and weaknesses Start a Learning Journal Start a Learning Journal Experiment with appropriate, different media types Experiment with appropriate, different media types Participate in the online community Participate in the online community

UND2602 Investigating the work setting KEY POINTS OF LEARNING ■ Recognition of future learning possibilities ■ Use of different genres and presentation mediums ■ Ability to recognise own strengths and weaknesses

UND2602 Investigating the work setting TOPICS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH ■ Local and national teaching programmes, eg: National Curriculum, Foundation Stage Profile, National Literacy Strategy ■ Different learning styles TARGETS FOR IMPROVEMENT ■ Show more evidence of participation in online community ■ Explain choice of media particularly consideration of audience

UND2604 Reflection in the work setting Identify critical incidents which provide an opportunity for learning Identify critical incidents which provide an opportunity for learning Introduction to and further knowledge of the theory of reflection, key theorists and terminology Introduction to and further knowledge of the theory of reflection, key theorists and terminology Use of different genres and media to produce reflective accounts Use of different genres and media to produce reflective accounts

UND2604 Reflection in the work setting KEY POINTS OF LEARNING ■ Ability to express my ideas more clearly, making connections between theory and practice ■ Improved ability to take control of my own learning ■ Increased participation in the online community including better quality critical reviewing

UND2604 Reflection in the work setting TOPICS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH ■ Continue to advance my reflection skills TARGETS FOR IMPROVEMENT ■ Make my understanding of theory more explicit, particularly how it relates to and can improve my practice ■ Become more critical in my evaluation of relevant literature

UND2605 Understanding Action Enquiry PLAN AND UNDERTAKE AN ACTION ENQUIRY PROJECT Identify possible research questions and discuss in community Explore workplace and literature contexts Plan and record Action Enquiry Proposal Data Collection Review findings and reflect on process Data Analysis

UND2605 Understanding Action Enquiry KEY POINTS OF LEARNING ■ Continued development of use of supporting literature ■ Ability to conduct a simple action enquiry ■ Knowledge of the basic theory and main theorists ■ More self aware of my behaviour in the classroom

UND2605 Understanding Action Enquiry TOPICS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH “In the future, I would like to do some further research into other techniques so that I can compare them to how successful this method has been. This method works well with Reception aged children – but what about older children? Something to ponder on!!!” (Extract from Reflection – December 2005) TARGETS FOR IMPROVEMENT ■ Continue to develop use of supporting literature, including making more opportunities for synthesis of reading ■ Have more confidence in my abilities!

UND2606 Learning in the Work Setting Assess learning needs in relation to role in work setting Assess learning needs in relation to role in work setting Apply a personal development plan Apply a personal development plan Implement and evaluate my own personal development plan Implement and evaluate my own personal development plan

UND2606 Learning in the Work Setting KEY POINTS OF LEARNING ■ Appreciation of the process and benefits of having a personal development plan ■ Ability to assess own learning requirements ■ Take responsibility for my own professional development

UND2606 Learning in the Work Setting TOPICS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH TARGETS FOR IMPROVEMENT ■ Greater explanation of choice of media ■ Evaluate strengths and weaknesses in a more explicit fashion By following SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely) guidelines, I was able to create a PDP which I felt would be successful for my needs. However, as I also discovered, a PDP will not work without regular Evaluation and Revision (making it SMARTER..) Therefore my future topics will be led by periodic reviews of my PDP.

UND2997 and CB230996S Independent Learning Modules Negotiate, plan and carry out a programme of learning or independent study Negotiate, plan and carry out a programme of learning or independent study Apply an appropriate epistemological analysis to existing knowledge/understanding Apply an appropriate epistemological analysis to existing knowledge/understanding Demonstrate acquisition of new knowledge/under- standing that is relevant to my pathway Demonstrate acquisition of new knowledge/under- standing that is relevant to my pathway Explore the implications for practice of this newly acquired knowledge Explore the implications for practice of this newly acquired knowledge

UND2997 and CB230996S Independent Learning Modules Independent Learning Module 1 An action enquiry into the impact of introducing more child- initiated learning in a Foundation Stage classroom, with particular emphasis on Literacy Learning.

UND2997 and CB230996S Independent Learning Modules Independent Learning Module 2 An action enquiry into the use of self-directed learning for professional development to improve my web design skills.

UND2997 and CB230996S Independent Learning Modules KEY POINTS OF LEARNING ■ Improved ability to negotiate, plan and present an action enquiry ■ Improved ICT skills ■ Greater understanding of the Foundation Stage, particularly relating to ‘play’ ■ Ability to meet my own learning requirements

UND2997 and CB230996S Independent Learning Modules TARGETS FOR IMPROVEMENT ■ Time management. Both modules did not contain sufficient ‘cycles’ of research in order to fully explore the subject matter ■ Improve final ‘stitching’ exercise, drawing together a summary of my work and identifying future investigation / additional cycles of action enquiry

UND2603 Action Enquiry A further module bringing together developing research skills and an increasing understanding of theory A further module bringing together developing research skills and an increasing understanding of theory Examining different views of research and associated ethics Examining different views of research and associated ethics Negotiate, plan and undertake an action enquiry Negotiate, plan and undertake an action enquiry Evaluation of the process Evaluation of the process

UND2603 Action Enquiry An action enquiry into the development of an ICT induction program for Foundation Stage pupils

UND2603 Action Enquiry KEY POINTS OF LEARNING ■ Improve my knowledge of how ICT fits into the Foundation Stage Profile ■ Liaison with the Teaching Staff to ascertain their requirements ■ Improved use of media for presenting my work ■ Greater understanding of the field of research

UND2603 Action Enquiry TOPICS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH TARGETS FOR IMPROVEMENT ■ Include at least 2 AE cycles ■ Ensure that any media links work on all computer platforms ■ More detail required into literature use and referred to in my summary Further cycles of research including production of an Induction program, and review effectiveness and suitability for all pupils
