4 All letter sounds are taught using jolly phonics actions
Songs can be found at to reinforce the songs at home Our focus is to recognise the phonemes using actions and the sounds

5 Connecting the sounds The children are beginning to recognise the graphemes now but need support to blend the sounds to make words e.g. c-a-t to make cat

6 Ways to help at home Play ‘I spy’ but sound out the words for them to connect e.g. I see a d-o-g Pretend to talk like a robot, can they connect the sounds to understand you? Spot letter sounds as you are out and about When reading with your child encourage them to spot the sounds and begin to blend When reading, encourage your child to sound out the words and then repeat the sounds back to them

7 Reading at home The children have been given a sheet of paper with simple sentences on in their home-school diary, please talk about the picture and encourage your child to sound out the letters (use the jolly phonics actions as a prompt!) The children will all have a reading book by half term, sometimes they will have words and sometimes just pictures.

8 Tricky Words The children are tested on the tricky words each week
At the front of the home-school diary is a list of the tricky words, when they are checked, and the child has got them write they will be initialled. When we are confident that they know these, we will issue the next set of tricky words.

9 Try to make them as fun as possible
At this stage the children just need to be able to read the tricky words Try to make them as fun as possible Play snap with them Put them onto jenga pieces to make towers Put them on connect 4 and play the game Hide them around the house Play pairs with them

10 P.A.I.R Reading The idea of P.A.I.R reading is to get your child ‘reading ready’ It is simple to use and should last between 10 to 20 minutes 5 days a week for you to share the book with your child Each week you will be given a different book to share with your child for that week

11 You will need to return this book in the bag each Monday for us to issue the next book to you
This will last for a total of 10 weeks and will be in addition to their reading book One of the biggest ways to help your child is to immerse them with books!

12 Tapestry – Online Learning Journeys
Instant Access to your child’s learning journey from a computer, tablet or iphone Completely secure site – need a username and password to access The school own all the contents of the learning journeys You will only be able to see your child (and the friends they are learning with in a particular activity)

13 It’s a great way for you to share what your child has been doing at school
Please don’t expect that there will be something on there everyday - sometimes we will be recording observations on paper It’s a great way for you to share your child’s learning at home with them – a starting point for, “What did you do at school?”

14 Not only is it a great way for us to share what your child has been doing at school, it’s a great way for you to share their ‘WOW’ moments at home or out and about too! You could post a video of them singing and dancing, or a picture of them painting a picture or write something about them being kind to their brother or sister.

15 You will need to sign the home-agreement
Photos must not be copied or shared on social media When we have your signed agreement we will set up your account so that you can view your child’s achievements – you will get an with a link to take you to the sight. You can more than one address
