2 Postmodern films use a variety of different techniques that break the conventions of traditional Hollywood films. These techniques are used to make the audience aware of the fact that they are watching a film. These techniques include: Anti-narratives: Disrupting the narrative using different techniques such as Freeze Frames in Sherlock Holmes, Slow Motion in Snatch. Meta-referencing: making the audience aware that they are watching a film e.g. talking or looking directly at the camera. Anti-narratives can be used to change the pace of an action scene, show a specific characters facial expression or can be used as a metaphor in different films. Meta-referencing is used in films such as Alfie (1966) and Being John Malkovich (1999) as the actors address the audience directly, breaking the 4 th wall and making the audience aware that they are watching a film.

3 We decided to experiment with different techniques that are used in postmodern films. We filmed 2 different sequences; one was someone running into the frame, doing a cartwheel, drawing a square and running off; the other was one person walking behind a tree and a different person appearing on the other side. The reasoning behind the drawing of the square was to reference the scene from Pulp Fiction where Uma Thurman draws a square onto the screen rather than saying the word. This is an example of Bricolage. We used the technique of Meta-referencing as we looked straight into the camera whilst drawing the square. This tells the audience that what they’re watching is planned and thought out rather than reality.

4 Editing We placed all of our footage into Adobe Premier. We placed Key Frames onto the timeline, surrounding the “interesting bit” that we wanted to slow down. After that we pulled the yellow line down to the percentage that we wanted the speed to become. Our clips became 50% rather than 100%. We split the Key Frame and drag half of each key frame to create our Speed Ramp. The final part was to click on the half Key Frame so a handle bar appeared, this allowed us to create a Bezier Curve on our speed ramp to ensure that the change in speed looked natural, like the effect gravity has on a bouncy ball, rather than artificial and robotic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTWNyTaiLTw&list=UUC QBbf-EYhj5X71jRaK8gpQ This is our final product.
