2 Our aim is to create and develop a motivated and inspired workforce to help to deliver a memorable Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 Employment & Skills Games time workforce target zones: –Our target zone for recruiting previously workless people is between 7 and 12 per cent of our total workforce. –Our target zone for recruiting from the Host Boroughs is between 15 and 20 per cent of our total workforce. 4 Catering –11 contractors delivering catering across 29 venues. Of which 5 are on the Olympic Park and 14 elsewhere in London and 10 in the UK outside of Greater London. –In total they will employ close to 16,000 people of which we expect 9,000 to be vacancies contractors need to recruit for. Of the 9,000, 6,700 will be located on the Olympic Park and a further 1,600 at venues elsewhere in London with a further 400 in the UK outside of London. –Majority of roles entry level ‘food service assistants’ Cleaning and Waste –5 contractors delivering services across 28 venues. Of which 5 are on the Olympic Park and 14 elsewhere in London and 9 in the UK outside of Greater London. –In total they will employ up to 6,000 people of which we expect 5,000 to be vacancies contractors need to recruit for. Of the 5,000 around 75% will be located on the Olympic Park. –Majority of roles entry level ‘support service assistants’ and ‘housekeepers’ Security –Estimated 10,000 contractor workforce required with one principle contractor – ‘Bridging the Gap’ project delivering security and stewarding training for Games time roles in 5 Host Borough Colleges and 80 colleges in total around the UK will train up to 8,000 people. At least a further 2,000 people will be required for Games times roles. Retail –Minimum of 3,000 opportunities. The main retail contractor is a start-up organisation so their entire workforce needs to be recruited from entry level customer service operatives through to experienced store managers. 6 Are you ready? Key actions 1.There will be more vacancies than any single organisation in the UK has ever dealt with before. Join up the organisations supplying labour in your area so you can work together 2.Check the readiness of the supply side organisations and their ability to respond –asses the caseload this summer so that you understand the volumes of jobs in the relevant sectors you will be targeting 3.Establish simple, regular communication arrangements - have a clearly identified communication route and stick to the protocols 4.Build the capability and capacity of advisers so that they understand the specifics of Olympic recruitment – it will be different to the job broking they are used to

7 Things to think about –What will your strategy be for the period immediately after the Games? –What will your strategy be for customer who do not meet the criteria for an Olympic Job ? –How will you deal with feedback to the customers ? –Share the best practice tools and techniques we have developed –Come and visit one of our labour market schemes
