Dates and Places The modern humans lived about 10,000 years ago. They lived in the middle eastern part of Europe. They lived in the time of the ice age.

Shelter Modern humans used bricks made from mud and straw to make the base of the hut. Roofs were thatched with straw covered with mud mats from rushes.

Daily Life Modern humans farmed for food so they would have food for the winter, as well as for the current time. They made pottery from which to eat their food. They also raised animals so they would have meat over the winter.

Tools A sickle made by flakes of flint fixed into handles made from antlers, animal jawbones, or wood was one important tool. The sickle was used in the fields to help the farmers cut the hay for food. Modern humans also used an axe to cut down trees for shelter in the tribe.

Painting and Carving In their life, the modern humans made pots crafted by hand, not by pottery wheels. After they made the pots, they painted the pots with handmade paints.

Ceremonies The modern humans planned burial ceremonies about 50,000 years ago in caves. They probably put food and water in the burial chamber (caves). They might have put the tools they used in their daily life in the chamber, too.

What They Ate Modern humans ate, fish, deer, wild sheep, wild goats and cows and they had to find them and hunt for all these animals, until they started keeping sheep and cows in pens. Modern humans found wild grains, berries, nuts, plant roots, fruits and wheat to eat. Some of these they began to plant and grow for themselves. For most dinners the modern humans had to make bread by using a stone mortar and pestle.

Clothing Cloth was dyed and made into clothing that was acceptable for their climate. Their clothing was mostly made from sheep wool and animal hides. For special occasions the clothing was fluffy and furry.

Fire Modern humans most definitely made fire. They made fire with wood from cutting down trees. Fire was important for many reasons: it provided warmth, it was also used to cook their food, and to make pots.

What Did the Modern Humans Look Like The modern humans looked like us now-a- days. Their brain was one-third smaller than ours. Their height was around four to five feet. Their weight was around 90 pounds to 120 pounds for an adult.

Development of Language Modern humans did not have written language. They spoke like us in an oral language.
