2 What is SBIR and STTR Small Business Innovation Research Allows subcontracting up to 1/3 of the work Small Business Technology Transfer Requires SBC 40% and nonprofit research institution 30% a highly competitive program that encourages domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research and Development (R&D) that has the potential for commercialization

3 SBIR & STTR Stimulate technological innovation Meet Federal research and development needs Foster and encourage participation in innovation and entrepreneurship by socially and economically disadvantaged persons Increase private-sector commercialization of innovations derived from Federal research and development funding
