The purple toy would contain the following: purple dye & mineral oil (top layer) with water and alcohol in the bottom layer. OR The red toy would contain the following: water, alcohol and red dye in bottom layer and oil in the top. Either answer would be correct 2.If you were to dye an oil based paint, would you want to use the purple dye or the red dye? Explain your reasoning. To dye an oil-based paint I would use the purple dye because in the Wave Toy lab I observed only the purple dye being soluble in oil.

What is missing with this answer? b)There were only two types of solubilites (either oil soluble or water/alcohol soluble) so only 2 layers. What is missing with this answer? 4.Did the red dye and purple dye dissolve the same way in all substances? How did this effect your recipe? No the two dyes didn’t dissolve the same way. The red dye dissolved in water and alcohol while the purple dye only completely dissolved in the oil.
