According to Henry J. Becker, from the University of California, “ Less than five percent of technology training is placed on “ transformative ” uses. ” This means that less than five percent of technology used in schools transforms the way we teach, learn and assess our students. Instead, technology is being used as a literacy tool. Word processing should not be a long term technology goal.

Teacher Trouble  Lack of training  Resistance to try something new  Fear of double work  Lack of time  Appropriate selection of technology to meet curriculum goals  Technology must be used regularly – not as an add-on

Technology is always changing! Schools cannot accommodate the changes due to cost and time.

Educational Software  E xpensive  Obsolete before implementation is complete  Software is game driven  This game driven approach reinforces old teaching styles – It does not promote new problem solving and critical thinking skills.  Classroom programs often mismatch content to child’s ability.  Software is often designed to teach to the test.

Safety for Our Students Students can be exposed to harmful situations on the internet.  Cyber-bullying  Unreliable Information  Consumerism
