2 You will learn about the Buddha, how he became the Buddha, and Buddhism today

3 The Buddha did not want his teachings to replace other faiths, but today over 330 million Buddhists in all parts of the world adhere to his philosophy. The Buddha became well known for his teachings of Buddhism. The teachings of the Buddha have a great impact on many people’s lives. Many followers of Buddhism are monks.

4 The Buddha concluded that life is ruled by Four Noble Truths. The Buddha believed that the most important thing in life was to reach peace by ending suffering. These are the Four Noble Truths.

5 After the Buddha’s death in 483 B.C, Buddhism spread throughout southern and eastern Asia. Buddhists everywhere lived by the Buddha’s teachings, which were written down as Proverbs. There are many Buddhists still today.

6 The Buddha believed all people went through a circle of birth, death, and rebirth, or reincarnation. The Buddha believed in karma, a force caused by a person’s good or bad acts. The symbol of reincarnation is a snake grabbing its tail.

7 The Buddha spent his whole life traveling India for peace and happiness. For six years, the Buddha traveled throughout northern India as a monk. He traveled all over India during his life.

8 Siddhartha Gautama (The Buddha) is traditionally said to have been born around 563 B.C. Siddhartha means “ He Who Has Reached His Goal” in Sanskrit. Siddhartha in his thoughts of India.

9 One night, Buddhists say, Siddhartha became enlightened. He became The Buddha when that happened because The Buddha means “The Enlightened One”. The Buddha traveled in horseback.

10 The Buddha called the way to end suffering the Eightfold Path. The Eightfold Path is a set of instructions on the proper way to live. The Eightfold Path, taught by the Buddha.

11 In summary, the travels of The Buddha were very helpful and taught him many things. Buddhism has grown very much and is still growing today, with over 330 million followers. The Buddha was believed to be fat and skinny. He loved to laugh.
