1 Motion Constraint Train Down the Track

2 Apply Angle Constraint to Workplanes Train is assembled at this point. Place a Workplane through the center of a Wheel in the part file (ipt).

3 Constrain the Wheels to Workplanes Apply an Angle Constraint to the back of the Train Body to back left wheel workplane.

4 Apply Angle Constraint to Workplane on Wheels Apply the same angle constraint to the workplanes on all the wheels. –Back left wheel workplane to front left wheel workplane. –Front left wheel workplane to front right wheel workplane. –Front right wheel workplane to back right wheel workplane. –Back right wheel workplane to back left wheel workplane.

5 Apply Angle Constraint to Workplane to Workplane. Have all directional arrows pointing towards the back of the train. Use the select other key to change the arrow direction on the workplane.

6 Front Left to Front Right Make sure that one linkage arm Is in a down position and the other is in an up position prior to applying the angle constraint.

7 Front Right to Back Right

8 Back Right to Back Left

9 Motion to Wheels Right click on the angle constraint applied to the back left wheel to the train body back and select drive constraint. Click the forward arrow to play. Note: If the wheels are turning in the opposite direction delete the angle constraint and reapply the angle constraint in the opposite order with workplane and body.

10 STOP That was one step in the process. The train wheels should move correctly with the linkage arm. You can now drive the train down the track. Continue the powerpoint.

11 Place Components Place 3 straight tracks into the train assembly.

12 Constraining the Train to the Track Right click on the Train Body in the Browser and uncheck Grounded. Right click on one of the straight tracks in the Browser and select Grounded. –Train can now move. –Track cannot move.

13 Suppressing the Angle Constraint Right click in the Browser on the Angle constraint that was 1 st applied to the back of the Train Body and the back left Wheel. Select Suppress.

14 Constraining the Straight Tracks Apply a Mate constraint to the Track surfaces.

15 Constraining the Straight Tracks Apply a Flush constraint to the following surfaces.

16 Constraining the Straight Tracks Apply a Flush constraint to the top of both tracks. Repeat the process for the other track.

17 Constrain the Train to the Track Apply a Mate constraint to the bottom of the train body to the top of the track with an Offset of.4375” for track groove depth of.1875”. Use Offset.375 for.25 groove depth.

18 Constrain the Train to the Track Apply a Flush constraint with an.7 or -.7 Offset to the side of the train body and the side of the track.

19 Constrain the Train to the Track Apply a Flush constraint to the back of the train body and the back of the track. Note: Select the train body first and the track second. Don’t apply 2 flush constraints.

20 Motion Rotation – Translational Constraint Select Constrain and the Motion Tab. Type is Rotation – Translation Solution is Forward Note: If wheels rotate in the opposite direction change solution to Reverse. 1 st select the wheel face 2 nd select the edge of the track The Distance is 2.25in*3.14

21 Motion Rotation – Translational Constraint

22 Drive the Train down the Track Right click on the Flush constraint for the back of the Train Body and the Back of the Track and select Drive Constraint. Set the End for 30in and select Play.
