1 European Master’s in translation Liu Fang

2 EMT is the acronym for the European Master's in Translation, a partnership project between the European Commission and the relevant academic community in Europe. The initial project was launched in 2006 and a network was officially formed in December 2009, following a selection procedure. It initially consisted of 34 universities in 16 European countries. In 2011, 20 more programmes were selected to join, bringing the total of members to 54 programmes in 20 European countries. The EMT emphasises the minimum professional competencies to be acquired, rather than programme content or a particular training methodology. Part 1 What is EMT

3 The main goal of this project is to establish a quality label for university translation programmes at master’s level that meet agreed standards in education.The EMT translator competence profile — drawn up with a group of prominent European experts — details the competences translators need to work successfully in today's market. In the long run, the EMT sets out to enhance the status of the translation profession in the European Union. Part 2 Aim of the EMT project

4 Part 3 EMT Competences Students enrolled in EMT Master’s programmes should acquire six competences allowing them to provide translation services, including all types of multilingual and multimedia communication.
