Basketball 1900-1909 Schommer won the national player of the year award in 1909 Teammate H.O. “Pat” Page in 1910 Schommer invented glass backboards in 1910 so that fans could see the game more easily Wisconsin's Christian Steinmetz became the 1 st collegiate player to score 1000 points (1903– 1905) Clemson's J. O. Erwin, scored a school-record 58 points in the school's 1 st intercollegiate game, a record that lasted the entire century
