1 Project #3: Optical Method of Detection and Analysis of Biological Molecules Faculty Mentor: Dr. Anastasios Angelopoulos Graduate Student Mentor: Mr. Srivathsan Ravi Participants: Ms. Heather Cooper & Mr. Kyle Frank

2 Goals Understanding the concept of color How to relate color to the structure of the material Learn to characterize the material based on intensity of light The Main Goal: To use these understandings to identify and quantify Bradykinin (BK) at very low concentrations

3 Tasks Use the Theory of Electromagnetic Radiation Become familiar with the instruments and software affiliated with the experiment Prepare membrane samples to get optical responses Use principles and concepts of UV-Visible Spectroscopy to quantify BK

4 Timeline Week 1Learn the Concepts of Color and Principles of Absorption Spectroscopy Week 2Literature Search of Bradykinin & Optical Sensing Approach Week 3 – Week 7Prepare Membrane Samples, Perform Reactions with BK & Analyze Optical Responses Week 8Finalizing the Deliverables (Report, Poster and Presentation)
