8 OUR TRADITIONAL WELCOMING CEREMONY The bread and salt ceremony is a welcoming ceremony. When important, respected or admired guests arrive, they are presented with a loaf of bread and salt. The bread is presented by young men and women dressed in national costumes. Local traditions

9 The Calusari is a traditional Romanian folk dance. It is said to bring luck, health and happiness to the villages in which it is danced. Căluşarii

10 Christmas Eve Carols People wander from house to house singing carols, playing the shepherd's flute and saying humorous verses. Each person carries a small woven bag around the neck.

11 SHEEP MEASUREMENT It is a custom beginning in the middle of May, when shepherds gather their sheep and, according to an ancient ritual, they milk them and measure the quantity of milk produced. The order for the sheepfold is established, as well as the order for shepherds and cheese. Everything is done in a festive atmosphere.

17 TOURISTIC ATTRACTIONS The Parvesti Church. A historical monument built in the 18th century. The legend claims that it was built by seven outlaws hosted by the Parvu family. It contains an inscription dating back to 1785. It is situated in Barisor approximately 1 kilometre away from the district centre.

18 The Maria Hord Garbea Folk Art Collection It contains more than 160 exhibits of folk costumes and many household exhibits.

20 Lola Rock’s history: Hundreds of years ago, a native girl was followed by Turks during an invasion, and escaped by jumping from a 200m tall rock in the water. There are good opportunities for amateur fishing and hunting in this area. The Upper Strei Valley The Upper Strei Valley Lola Rock

21 Located on the left bank of the Strei river, at a height of 920 metres, the Tecuri Cave is a natural monument. It contains a series of concrete formations of rare beauty - stalactites and stalagmites that form a kind of "curtain" out of which flows a red liquid.

22 If you pass through Tara Hategului and have some spare time, have some rest and enrich your soul in the Baru district. Go to an inn and ask someone to show you the beautiful Strei Valley, the museum, the church, the cave, Tecuri and many, many other places… You’ll never regret it and you’ll definitely want to come again!
