3  A multimeter is used to measure electric current. It is also used to test continuity between two points to check and see if there is any breaks in circuit or line.

4  There are 2 types of multimeters, Analog and Digital. Analog has a needle style gauge and digital has a LCD display.

5  There are also 2 styles of multimeters, switched and ranged. With switched multimeters you have to manually switch them to get most accurate readings. For ranged multimeters it switches between ranged automatically for best readings.

6  First you have to set the multimeter to Ohms or Resistance, then connect the black test lead to the jack marked “common”. Then connect the red test lead to the jack marked with the letter “R” near it.  Set your range if provided to R x 100. hold the probes at the end of the test leads together.  Always to remember to put the mulitmeter back at zero immediately after charging resistance ranges.
