2  “A multimeter is an instrument designed to measure electric current, voltage, and usually resistance, typically over several ranges of value.” They are used to test, measure and monitor electrical devises.

3  The main settings of a multimeter is DC current, AC current, ohms and continuity.

4  There are two types of multimeters. There is the analog multimeter and the digital multimeter. The analog multimeter has a needle style gauge and the digital multimeter has a LCD display.

5  There are two styles of multimeters. One is the switched multimeter and the other one is the auto range multimeter. A switched multimeter is manually switched between ranges to get the most accurate reading. A auto range multimeter switches between ranges automatically for the best reading.
