2 Ink & Carrier Tattoo ink is composed of two components: the carrier
the pigment (ascundergrad) The job of the carrier is to keep the pigment evenly mixed, not clumping, and free from pathogens. The most common carriers are: Glycerin (used in soaps & dynamite, made from alcohol, Water isopropyl alcohol witch hazel (plant oil)

3 Ink & Pigment Manufacturers of tattoo pigments are not required to reveal the contents of their pigments Pigments are made from a variety of different sources, including: minerals mined from underground industrial organic pigments or plastic based are chemically synthesized, contain carbon, and produced from petroleum products vegetable-based pigments made from plant extracts

Common composition White Titanium dioxide (sunscreen), lead carbonate, barium sulfate, or zinc oxide Black iron oxides (rust), carbon (soot), or logwood (extracted from a tree in Central America) Brown Ochre - Iron oxides (rust) mixed with clay Red Cinnabar (made from mercury sulphide – a toxic metal), cadmium (a toxic metal), iron oxide (rust), or napthol (made from petroleum products) Orange cadmium seleno-sulfide, disazodiarylide, or disazopyrazolone Yellow  cadmium, ochres, curcuma (derived from the turmeric plant) Green chromium oxide , malachite , lead chromate, potassium ferrocyanide (yellow or red) and purple blue ferric ferrocyanide (Prussian Blue) blend Blue  from minerals that include copper carbonate (azurite), sodium aluminum silicate (lapis lazuli), calcium copper silicate (Egyptian Blue), other cobalt aluminum oxides and chromium oxides Purple  manganese and aluminum

5 UV Pigments light up when exposed to UV light (also known as blacklight) are invisible, though may appear slightly raised or red on the skin UV inks are made from fluorescent ink and should not contain phosphors an UV ink-filled shell injected into the dermis. The shells are about five times larger than human red blood cells.
