3 Objectives At the end of this lesson the students will have further understanding of a complex sentence.

4 Fair Use Guidelines Certain Materials are included under the fair use exemption of the U.S. Copyright Law and have been prepared according to the educational fair use guidelines.

5 Definition Has one or more subordinate sentence combined with an independent sentence.

6 Use Subordinate Conjunctions Remember...after, although, as, because, before, if, since, so that, until, while, etc.

7 Punctuate Subordinate Conjunction at the beginning, put a comma!!!! Subordinate Conjunction in the middle, leave it alone!!!

8 Examples Because it is raining, we can not go outside. We can go swimming if it stops raining. While it is raining, we can play board games. I like playing Scrabble so that I can learn new words. Before we begin, let’s make some popcorn!
