2 Unit 5 Objectives Students will produce rhymes. Students will identify syllables in words. Students will locate and blend the final consonant sounds /m/ and /s/. Students will review the names of the letters of the alphabet. Students will begin to attain mastery in attaching the /a/ sound to the letter As.

3 Warming Up Use one or both of warm-ups Recite the Rhyme. Hey, diddle, diddle, The cat and the fiddle, The cow jumped over the moon. The little dog laughed to see such sport, And the dish ran away with the spoon.

4 Warming Up Use one or both of warm-ups Word Pairs, Have students jump up if the word pairs rhyme: Dog-diddle Diddle-fiddle cow-little Dish-sport Moon-spoon Extra rhyming words for cow (bow, dow, how, now, pow, wow) Ran (ban, can, Dan, fan, man, Stan, van)

10 Investigating Concepts Beyond the Text Objectives: Students will listen attentively to follow diretions for completing a unit project. Students will generate questions to get information about perseverance. Students will use materials from the school library and computer resources to gather information about perseverance. Read a book form the Leveled Classroom Library. Students will draw a picture and write a story about times in school that they have used perseverance.
