3 Domain-Specific Vocabulary 1.Arms Race: The U.S. and U.S.S.R. spent great amounts of money to develop more and more powerful weapons. 2.Space Race: competition between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. during the Cold War to advance their space programs. 3.Sputnik: Soviet satellite put into orbit around Earth in 1957. It was the first man-made satellite put into orbit.
