2 The Future Tense "Will" often suggests that a speaker will do something voluntarily. A voluntary action is one the speaker offers to do for someone else. EXAMPLES: A: I'm really hungry. B:I'll make some sandwiches. A: I'm so tired. I'm about to fall asleep. B: I'll get you some coffee.

3 "Will" to Express a Promise "Will" is usually used in promises EXAMPLES: I will call you when I arrive. I promise I will not tell him about the surprise party. You shouldn’t play football. I promise I will not play football.

4 "Be going to" to Express a Plan "Be going to" expresses that something is a plan. EXAMPLES: He is going to play football in school. A: Who is going to make John's birthday cake. B: Sue is going to make John's birthday cake.

5 "Will" or "Be Going to" to Express a Prediction Both "will" and "be going to" can express the idea of a general prediction about the future. EXAMPLES: The year 2003 will be a very interesting year. The year 2003 is going to be a very interesting year. It will rain. It's going to rain.

7 Grammar Positive(will): S+Will+V 1 +Obj. I will take an aspirin. He will go to cinema. Negative(will): S+Won’t+V 1 +Obj. I won't call you again. They won't come to Turkey this year, they haven't got enough money.

8 Question(Will): Will+S+V 1 +Obj. Will you use computer. Yes, I will. No. I won’t. Will Can buy a jacket for him? Will the teacher leave as soon?

9 Positive(going to): S+am\is\are+V 1 I am going to buy a toy next week. I am going to play tennis tomorrow. Negative(going to): S+am\is\are not+V 1 I am not going to learn Japanese next year. He isn't going to ask question.

10 Question(going to): Am\is\are+S+going to+V 1 Are you going to play basketball this year? Is the teacher going to give a test next lesson? Is he going to play football with friends tomorrow?

11 Exercise: I will go to Italy. I will bring you an asprin. I will open the door. I am going to eat lunch at 12:30 this afternoon. She is going to watch the film on the TV after she finishes her homework.
