Unit Summary This lesson will provide important historical background and information over the religions of the world and allow students the opportunity to understand the social implications of these religions in their prospective cultures. In today’s increasingly globalized society, it is important for students to learn about the religion, culture and customs of other places not only to make them well rounded individuals but also to increase their ability to compete in the new global economy.

3. Curriculum Framing Questions Essential Question What factors influence a cultural group? Unit Question How did societies produce distinctive religious traditions that helped to define the cultural traits of their civilization? Content Questions What are the unique beliefs and characteristics of the major religions?

4. Lesson Activity Students will work in teams to research a specific religion/philosophy, in order to determine its historical origins, central ideas, and how it spread. Students will then present their findings to the rest of the class. Students may present their findings using a power point presentation or through role playing/skit.
