2 The Black Cross Nurses are in Belize today. They are a group of Black Women and men also who provided various services to the people out of love for our people. They can be between the ages of 16 - 45 (as stated in the UNIA-ACL constitution). The re-establishment of these nurses will ensure that there will be someone available to care for you when you are sick or hospitalized.

3 The Black Cross Nurses were founded as an all female auxiliary of the Universal Negro Improvement Association in May 1920. The Black Cross Nurses were formed at a convention of the Universal Negro Improvement Association meeting in Philadelphia. The Black Cross Nurses were formed approximately six years after Marcus Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association in Jamaica in 1914. The Black Cross Nurses were so named because of Marcus Garvey's penchant for creating a Negro society that was the obverse of the surrounding white society.

4 Their goals were Calling on caring, committed Africans from a global prospective to help with the social, economical and mental wellness of their people.

5 Volunteered in hospitals, formed organizations such as the Universal Black Cross Nurses in Vancouver, and raised money for the Patriotic Fund.

6 People liked the group because they made sure that if you were sick or injured, someone was there to care for you. They did things to help their people out of love.
