3 Yellow Journalism A type of journalism that distorts and exaggerates the news to create sensations and attract readers *Pulitzer and Hearst were two authors who were known for using yellow journalism* Fun fact:  “The Yellow Kid”, a newspaper cartoon, gave its name to the sensational journalism of the time

4 Yellow Journalism What do sensational and exaggeration mean? You’ve learned about both of these in English!!! Sensational is appealing to your senses. Think about the Author’s Purpose… (PIE) with yellow journalism is the author trying to persuade, inform, or entertain? Exaggeration.. Uses of Hyperbole..

19 Group Work Assignment Use an event, that we have learned about in history already, to design a newspaper ad. Use the “sensational” and “exaggerated” style of Hearst and Pulitzer. Use a blank 8 ½ by 11 inch piece of paper – include headlines (both large and small) and include some pictures. You need to exaggerate an actual historical event.
