3 Why Harmonise? 4 Core Principles Work-place based education around Wales Predominantly clinical experience enhanced with supplementary simulation Increasing responsibility in an assistantship model Frequent formative assessment/feedback Major NHS/Patient safety issues delivered in whole year groups

5 Clinical Placements 3 clinical blocks – 8 weeks each – Primary Care Clinical placement – Junior Clinical assistantship – Senior Clinical assistantship Elective – 8 weeks Shadowing – prior to commencing FY1

6 Themed teaching To meet GMC TD’09 and NHS requirements – Preparing for practice NHS Structure/Patient Safety/e-portfolio – Changing practice Clinical Governance/Audit Principles – Science in practice Developing evidence based practice – Practise to practice Foundation outcomes

7 Structure Junior Assistantship Primary Care Placement Elective Senior Assistantship Preparing for Practice Changing Practice Science in Practice Practise for Practice Simulation/Formative Assessment/Feedback

8 Final year assessment No final examinations!!! A new 4 th year assessment to be developed to ensure students have necessary skills E-portfolio Work-place based assessments

9 Increasing responsibility Students will be embedded into the clinical team As year progresses take on more supervised responsibility – Ordering investigations – Prescription writing – Practical procedures Required to do out of hours work
