Solving Systems Using Elimination 1. y = 4x – 3 y = 2x + 13 Substitute 4x – 3 for y in the second equation. y = 2x + 13 4x – 3 = 2x + 13 4x – 2x – 3 = 2x – 2x + 13 2x – 3 = 13 2x = 16 x = 8 y = 4x – 3 = 4(8) – 3 = 32 – 3 = 29 Since x = 8 and y = 29, the solution is (8, 29).
